Zurini started her ways in art with analog photography during high school. She then studied Arts Plastiques at Cégep du Vieux Montréal and discovered the image transfer technique in painting class, integrating her photography with abstract painting. In between college and university, she continued to paint and took some pottery classes at Bonsecours. When she started her BFA at Concordia, she decided to try the ceramics class and fell in love with the medium. Discovering a propensity for 3D, she then enrolled in bronze-casting classes. She fell in love with the laborious process of metal casting the same way she did with ceramics; from the modelling of the wax, all the steps until the casting and the final finishing of the metal piece. After completing her BFA in 2016, she now mostly works in the mediums of ceramics, wax modelling, and metal-casting, while occasionally still painting and taking photographs.
Whatever medium I use, my work becomes about the union of my fascination with form and the qualities of various materials. Spontanously and intuitively, I choose a certain form and then explore it through making and remaking it with various techniques and through different materials. The repetition of certain forms or images along with the repetition of the gestures and the stages of producing them truly reflects an obsession with perfection that I see in them. I am drawn to the details of natural forms and the action of compulsively reproducing them allows me to study and explore their details. Experiencing these details in a series delves deep into what we ordinarily perceive as banal or even just take for granted. At the same time, my fascination with the material behavior, like the way the same glaze reacts differently at various temperatures, fascinates and intrigues me just as much as a kernel on an ear of corn or the delicate curves of the human ear. ( or the uniqueness and quality of each shell.)
